Introduction For decades, humans have imagined intelligent digital assistants capable of understanding conversations, solving problems, making decisions, and even working alongside people. Early attempts at conversational software gave us chatbots — programs that could answer simple questions using predefined rules. While useful, these systems were limited. They could respond only to situations they had been explicitly programmed to recognize. Today, artificial intelligence has entered a new era. For the first time, computers could generate fluent, human-like language across many different domains. Yet there was still a major limitation.
